meet your therapist
Hey there! I’m excited to connect with you as you consider counseling. My name is Emily Barfield, and I am currently an Associate Licensed Counselor in Alabama, under the supervision of Daphne Simpson, LPC-S. I earned my bachelor's degree in Integrated Studies from Jacksonville State University and completed my master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at the University of West Alabama in 2024. Becoming a counselor has been my dream job for as long as I can remember, and I feel incredibly fortunate to be living that dream!
In my counseling approach, I emphasize empathy and strive to create a safe space where everyone—whether it’s you or your child—can freely explore their challenges and strengths. I truly believe in the transformative power of therapy and in each person’s natural resilience. If you think we might be a good fit, I’d love to hear from you!

I had a wonderful mentor/pastor in college who had a degree in counseling, and I was fascinated by it. I did some substitute teaching while at JSU and I realized that I was more drawn to talking to the students about what they were going through rather than teaching them. I was also motivated by the lack of accessible and quality counseling services available, especially in smaller communities like Fort Payne. I have a strong desire to make a difference by providing meaningful support and guidance to individuals who need it most.
